His activities as a chess author began in 1950 when he commissioned by the German Sports Committee of the German Democratic Republic when he reported on the GDR championship in Sömmerda. The following year his first opening book, a monograph on the French defense appeared in Sport the official German publication in the series "collective library of Physical Culture". 1958 began his collaboration with Kurt Rattmann , during which he continued until the mid-1980s and wrote a total of 22 opening books in the series "Handbook of Chess Openings".
