Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good+. First Edition. This is a Very Good + Copy of this Book in Publisher's blue cloth with black title lettering to spine and upper cover in a Very Good + Dust-Jacket.This is a fascinating and scarce copy with a handwritten letter tipped onto the front pastedown by Lieutenant CWS Dreyer a British officer who commanded MTB 102, 3rd Motor Torpedo Boat Flotilla and MTB 30, 4th Motor Torpedo Boat Flotilla in GB coastal waters, English Channel and during Dunkirk Evacuation, 1940; commanded 5th, 6th and 9th Motor Torpedo Boat Flotillas in GB coastal waters, 1942; commanded 24th Motor Torpedo Boat Flotilla in GB coastal waters and Mediterranean, 1943; served as staff officer with Operations Division (Coastal) and to Captain, Coastal Forces (Channel), Coastal Forces in GB, 1944.His two sided letter from 1944 was written to Lieutenant GJ Peel of the Royal Navy Voluntary Reserve. In the letter there is some mention of the attack and demolition of the German U-Boat which was in the papers (see picture of newspaper article) which is also laid in at the front of the book. The dust-jacket has survived superbly well as it's has been protected in brown paper and on the front is the title of the book and it's date. Now the writing to the brown paper sheet is not dissimilar to the hand writing of Pater Scott The Author, however we are not able to verify it to be sure it comes from the hand of Peter Scott.Regardless of that the book remains a great looking copy and certainly rare in this condition and is a great copy for the collector of Navy or Maritime History with this wonderful letter laid in by Christopher William Stuart Dreyer.Illustrated work with 8 colour plates and some 76 monochrome plates. The book has a firm binding with no hinge weakness and there is no leaning or rolling to spine. As an MTB commander, Peter Scott saw action against the enemy during the course of World War Two. In this book he recalls the struggle for control of the narrow seas of the Channel and the southern North Sea during the war,4to 228pp First Edition 1st Impression [1945].
