This comprehensive work on the history of Utah art and artists begins with the pioneer period of 1847 and covering to 1990. Printed to coincide with the show 'Masterpieces of Utah Art' at the Springville Museum of Art. LeConte Stewart (1891-1990) was a noted landscape artist, who primarily painted the area of Northern Utah that he called home for most of his life. He was one of the few Latter-day Saint artists who was active in the early twentieth century who resisted the lure of European training, he instead chose to attend the Art Students League. In 1938 he began a nearly two decade stint as an art instructor and head of the art department at the University of Utah.
