Featured in this book are works dating from the 15th through the 18th centuries, arranged into seven themes: astronomy, early medical teaching, optics, theories of vision, color, ophthalmology, and spectacles. With black and white illustrations and 16 color plates. An exhibition of the collection ran from April 1 through June 30, 2013 at Johns Hopkins University's George Peabody Library.
