Gottlieb Leon (April 17, 1757 Vienna , Roman empire - 27 September 1830 Vienna, Austro Hungarian Empire) was an Austrian… writer and librarian. After studying at the University of Vienna, he became court master in 1778 and joined the Viennese court library in 1782. In 1791 he took over the activity of the librarian and from 1816 was curator and head of the incunabula collection. Throughout his life he collected folk songs and, above all, published the songs of other peoples in book form. His poetry in the style of German classical music, especially shaped by the Göttingen Hainbund, was considered technically good, but also not particularly imaginative. In 1795/96 he resigned as editor of the Wiener Muses Almanac (before 1777-1786 it was known as Wienerischer Musenalmanach) In 1827 he retired due to illness.
