Flexible leatherette. Condition: Very Good. (Volume 21). [modest external wear, with a slight rippling (from moisture absorption) to the lower part of the pages throughout the book]. (B&W photographs, ads, graphics) High school yearbook from one of the more famous high schools in the country, Hollywood High, founded in 1903 just… a few blocks north of its present location at the northwest corner of Highland Ave. and Sunset Blvd. It contains all the usual stuff: individual tiny head shots of all the members of the Senior Class; group photographs of various organizations and clubs (the Honor Society, the Boys' and Girls' Glee Clubs, the Hi-Y Club, the Cosmpolitan Club, etc.); ditto for athletic teams (of which there were many!); photos from that year's student production of the opera "The Bohemian Girl"; and more. Many of the illustrations and graphics in the book were rendered by Dorothy Feldman and D. Cooke. Notable members of the Class of 1926: future film director and "Hollywood Ten" member Edward Dmytryk; actor/screenwriter True Boardman; and John Aiso, who would later become first judge in the U.S. of Japanese-American descent. There's a "Literature" section, which includes some verse, several short-short stories, and a longer story, "The Single Chance," by one Grace Lever (who as far as I can tell did not go on to any kind of writing career, distinguished or otherwise). Most interesting, perhaps, for local historians are the numerous advertisements for local businesses, which take up the last 20 pages or so, partially sprinkled into the "Humor" section of the volume, which is full of gag lines and bons mots of the sort you might expect from high school students in the 1920s.
