Soft cover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. They called her 'Barsa' in Arabic. Barsa-the one who does not veil her face, the one who does not bow her head, the one who asks questions. Sabitha and Rasheed, a young couple and doctors both, leave their homeland in Kerala to work in the holy city of Mecca. The story spans the six years they spend in Mecca. Not a Muslim by birth, Sabitha had converted to Islam for marriage. In her time in Mecca, she observes, experiences and questions the restrictions to which women around her are subjected, even as she faces challengers of her own and finally understands that religion is experiences and lived differently in different parts of the world. A powerful comment on religion, gender, patriarchy and spirituality, and how the experience of religion can be different for men and women, this is the first-ever English translation of a celebrated novel in the original Malayalam by a valiant Muslim female voice.

This study of the Social Kingship of Christ was written by a group of Catholic writers and translators under a pseudonym. Approaches was a tradionalist Catholic journal co-founded by Hamish Fraser and Geoffrey Lawman in 1965 "to inspire the laity to unite for defence of what remains of our Christian heritage, and to work for the reconstruction of the social order in accordance with Christian principles and the natural law" (from the inaugural issue). The journal was a serious attempt to document the excesses of Vatican II, including the spread of atheistic Communism, and as a tool for the small groups or cells engaged in "dynamic doctrinal action." Notable contributors included Jean Ousset (the prominent and controversial French traditionalist) Fraser, Lawman, James O. Sherrif, Henri Rambaud, and later Michael Davies. Fraser continued to edit and publish Approaches until his unexpected death in 1986. His son, Tony Fraser, continued the journal but under the name "Apropos," which was published until 2013. Stapled, folded sheets, 116 pp. A near fine copy. Scarce. Only one copy in WorldCat (MSU).
