"Sir, I had not seen Mr Howell for several days when M. de Courtenay called on me and as time appeared to be precious with you I thought I had better risk mentioning the matter prematurely to him taking care to inform him that I had already put a gentleman into communication with you and that I did not know how far the negotiation had proceeded. The day following Mr Howell called on me and informed [me] that he had received your proposals that he proposed accepting them, &c. I have therefore acquainted M de Courtenay with the fact that Mr Howell has accepted your terms. The "Fixateur" is sold all complete for 7/6. It consists of a bottle of Chloride of Gold with a strong acid, a graduated vase, a blow-pipe, a pamphlet in French containing the instructions, and four laminettes of zinc. It is very difficult to use[.] one or two of the Parisian manufacturers succeed but the generality cannot handle it. A gentleman in London is using it also with great success. Your request to "put you in possession of the Fixateur." Pray do you wish me to send it to you? Please let me know. I can if you like send you the instructions alone price 9d.
