A Series of three reversible ornaments were produced from a damaged print most likely by Katsukawa Shuncho which were designed and executed by our in-house binder, Karen Thompson Bullock. Salvaged portions for No. 1 were drymounted to both sides of a 4-inch cut wood circle and 5.5x 1.25-nch binders board, edges were colored, proprietary sealants applied. Pieces are joined by gold plated jump rings and permanent green hanging cords. 9.5 x 4 inches. New. Ukiyo-e prints were a popular art form during Japan's Edo period (1603Ð1867) produced using carved cherry wood blocks.ÊThis print is yakusha-e, a popular genre of ukiyo-e depicting famous Kabuki actors.Ê This artist was active from 1780-95. The imagery includes depictions of historical figures, crowd scenes, and natural landscapes, typical of Edo period aesthetics. Text translation: A ronin or masterless samurai named Saizu (means size). EDO118384.
