DJ shows scuffing and minor soiling along with numerous edge and corner chips and tears. Orange cloth boards underneath are clean and bright though there is some spots of white on the back board and rear hinge area. Minor corner bumps are also present. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight like the book was never read. Text pages are clean and bright but end pages show some light toning and spotting. No signatures or bookplates present, no handwriting, no library markings, no remainder marks. First US edition with the UK version being published the same year through Cassell and Company.

Born of a Creole family in New Orleans, and very conscious of the evils of slavery, his genius flowered at an early age. He is acknowledged as the greatest player ever of the soprano saxophone and he also played the clarinet. He toured widely in the US and Europe. During his short stay in England in 1919 he played before King George V and Queen Mary. From 1949 to his death in 1959 he lived in France where he is still revered today. Some of his compositions, such as petite Fleur, are considered jazz classics.
