The tournament at Nürnberg 1896 included Thirty-nine players wh…o wanted to participate in the master competition, nineteen were allowed in Nuremberg. When Amos Burn withdrew, the little-known Rudolf Charousek took his place at the recommendation of Géza Maróczy. The international tournament was played in the premises of the Museum Society in Nuremberg from 20 July until 9 August. The time limit was thirty moves in two hours. The main prizes went to Emanuel Lasker (3000 marks), Géza Maróczy (2000 marks), Siegbert Tarrasch and Harry Nelson Pillsbury (each 1250 marks), Dawid Janowski (600 marks), Wilhelm Steinitz (300 marks), Carl August Walbrodt and Carl Schlechter (each 100 marks) Condition: Very good to fine.

The Deutsches Wochenschach was a weekly German chess magazine devo…ted to current events around the world, but with a focus on happenings in Germany. It was first published in 1884 and had a continuous run through 1927. Occasionally some weekly issues were combined. It incorporated Berliner Schachzeitung in 1898, which started in 1896. Some what of a scarce publication, Bibliotheca van der Linde-Niemeijeriana collection lacked volumes 1-5. A Large and extensive amount of period information on chess. Condition: Rebound in modern cloth, numbers 7 through 10, 13, 19/20, 23a, 24 through 26 and index supplied in quality facsimile copies else a very good copy.

Deutsche Schachzeitung was the first German chess…magazine. Founded in 1846 by Ludwig Bledow under the title Schachzeitung der Berliner Schachgesellschaft, it took the name Deutsche Schachzeitung in 1872. (Another magazine used the title Deutsche Schachzeitung from 1846 to 1848.) When it ceased publication in December 1988 it was the oldest existing magazine in the world, having been published regularly since its founding in 1846 except for a five-year break (1945-1949) during World War II. Since January 1989, the Deutsche Schachzeitung was merged in the Deutsche-Schachblätter - Schach-Report which was edited in Hollfeld. The resulting magazine appeared with the names of both former magazines on its cover till December 1996. Since January 1997, this magazine again was merged in the Berlin magazine Schach. The resulting magazine kept the names Schach and Schach-Report on its cover for one year, but the name Deutsche Schachzeitung had disappeared from the cover. Since 1998, the magazine appears under the simple Schach. However, the table of contents is still headed by the names Deutsche Schachzeitung, Deutsche Schachblätter and Schach-Report. The Deutsche Schachzeitung was in its prime in the first two decades of the 20th century. Condition: Rebound lacking wrappers else very good.
