ADB XXXIV, 197f. - Alexander Ignaz Stephan Hubert von Sieger (1798-1848) wirkte als Kaplan in Düsseldorf und später als Pfarrer zu Mühlheim, bevor er sich als Emeritus nach Bonn zurückzog. Als heftiger Kritiker des von Georg Hermes begründeten Hermesianismus hatte er Anteil um de…n in den 'Kölner Wirren' (eigentlich der Konflikt zwischen der katholischen Kirche und der preussischen Regierung in Berlin) ausgefochtenen Streit um innerkatholische aufklärerische und anthropozentrische Reformen. - Im vorliegenden Werk bemüht er sich auf charismatisch-souveräne Weise und mit geistesscharf-bildreicher Rethorik, den Konflikt zwischen Protestanten und Katholiken auf Missverständnisse durch die protestantische Methode zurückzuführen und einer Wiederannäherung den Weg zu bereiten. Dabei spielen neben den innerkatholischen Reformbestrebungen auch technische Entwicklungen, die zeitgenössisch entstehenden Gegensätze der großen politischen Ideologien sowie konfessionslose Institutionen, wie etwa die britische Freimaurerei eine Rolle für die Motivation des Verfassers. Aus dem Vorwort: "Eine neue Propaganda des Christenthums, dort an der Themse gegründet, möchte den Erdball mit religiösem Nebel umhüllen, der durch den Nordschein menschlicher Vernunft erhellet, den Erdbewohnern zwar die Pfade der Bürger, und die Kunststraßen der Reiche noch zeige, die Sonne aber, deren überirdische Strahlen den schmalen Weg des Lebens zu jener engen Pforte erleuchten, verberge; daher denn die alte Propaganda an der Tiber zürnend das eitle Menschenwerk verwarf." - Der schlichte Umschlag etwas verfärbt und leicht knickspurig. Exlibris des Düsseldorfer Architekten Spiegel auf der vorderen Innenseite, Besitzeintrag alter Hand mit Tinte auf dem Titel. Blätter unbeschnitten, daher angenehm breitrandig, das qualitativ hochwertige Papier nur auf wenigen Seiten unmerklich braunfleckig.
