Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Condition: Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: Good+. Trevor Denning (dust jacket illustration) (illustrator). First Edition. 8vo. Pp. 282. Bound in bright red cloth with black lettering and rules stamped on spine. Cloth is mottled, as with other copies we've seen (likely a production flaw), and with a dampstain on the front board. In the illustrated dust jacket that shows dampstain on the front panel; slight edge-wear. Inscribed by Silvette on the front free endpaper. Inscription in green ink reads, "To Paul Jordan Smith with kindest regards [signed] Herbert Silvette / [unintelligible] Stanardsville, VA 10 Jan. '58". Jordan-Smith was the American lecturer and scholar of English literature whose art movement, "Disumbrationism," was eventually revealed as a hoax. Wilbur Jordan Smith, his son, ran UCLA Special Collections from 1950s-1970 or so. The dust jacket, illustrated by Trevor Denning, is now preserved in a removable clear archival sleeve.
