The author argues that the disunity of the Protestant church is a symptom of a deeper disease, a substitution of the forms of Christian life for the life itself. The author believes that a return to supreme loyalty to Christ is the only way to cure the disease of disunity, and that such a cure is possible. The book offers a thoughtful and engaging discussion of a topic of vital importance to the future of Christianity. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

This 1846 edition features a total of eleven unpaged b/w plates collating as frontis plus plates opposite pages 48, 84, 119, 138, 179, 207, 237, 247, 266, and 316 which corresponds to Howes citation of eleven plates in the 1844 first. Publisher Henry G. Langley's 1844 twenty-four page "Catalogue of Important Works" bound-in at rear. This book was acquired from the Tupelo, Mississippi multi-generational family library of Frank O.
