Detached upper board. 5 raised ribs, gilt lettered author/title panel. 10"x7", 522pp. Pencilled name, dated Jan 1870. Otherwise flawless text & plates. ZERO aging, foxing, soiling, other marginalia or any other sort of flaw. Glossy red text block edges. Plates & maps collated complete. First published in UK the year before. Flaws confined to the cover. Edgewear, spine ends with 1" closed tears. Upper cover bowed a bit. Weak rear hinge. FAIR half morocco. FAE. Identically marbled boards & pastedowns.
