Frans Simons was born in 1908 at Venlo, the Netherlands. Ordained a priest in 1932 he spent many years as a missionary in India, becoming Bishop of the Diocese of Indore in 1952. He resigned this position in 1971 after clashing with the Vatican on the subjects of papal infallibility and birth control. He died in 2002.
