The MICASE Handbook presents information that has previously been unavailable to corpus users, giving teachers the ability to easily locate appropriate material for their lessons. This is an excellent resource for post-secondary ESL/EFL teachers who have incorporated or hope to incorporate corpus-based work into their classroom activities and for corpus linguists and discourse analysts who use the data in their in research. The MICASE Handbook includes: * abstracts of all 152 speech events included in the corpus* speech events organized by type of speech event, academic division, interactivity rating, participant level, and characteristics of the primary speaker* guidelines for developing pedagogical materials and sample MICASE-based instructional materials. The Micase Corpus tracked spoken English in a variety of university settings - lectures, language labs, advising sessions, department meetings, and others. This work contains a set of abstracts of each of the 152 speech events in the original MICASE database. The abstracts provide contextual background on each of the speech events of the corpus.
