As new condition maroon boards, maroon spine, and gold spine lettering and decoration contained in a very good condition non price-clipped color illustrated dust jacket. Also includes color illustrated front and rear endpapers. Some scratch marks on the rear outer jacket; the jacket is otherwise in fine condition. Signed and inscribed by the author with blue ink on the Dedication Page. "Set in France and England at the end of the twelfth century, the moving story of a spirited questing young woman, Isabelle, who defies convention to forge a remarkable life, one profoundly influenced by the fabled queen she idolizes and comes to know - Eleanor of Aquitaine. Willful and outspoken, sixteen-year-old Isabelle yearns to escape her stifling life in provincial twelfth-century France. The bane of her mother's existence, she admires the notorious queen whom most in her circle abhor: Eleanor of Aquitaine. Isabelle's arranged marriage to Gerard - a rich, charismatic lord obsessed with falcons - seems, at first, to fulfill her longing for adventure. But as Gerard's controlling nature and his consuming desire for a male heir become more apparent, Isabelle, in the spirit of her royal heroine, makes bold, often perilous decisions that will forever affect her fate. A suspenseful, sweeping tale about marriage, freedom, identity, and motherhood, The Falcon's Eyes brings alive not only a brilliant century and the legendary queen who dominated it, but also the vivid band of complex characters whom the heroine encounters on her journey to selfhood: noblewomen, nuns, servants, falconers, and courtiers. The various settings - Chateau Ravinour, Fontevraud Abbey, and Queen Elanor's exiled court in England - are depicted as memorably as those who inhabit them. The story pulses forward as Isabelle confronts one challenge, one danger after another, until it hurtles to its final, enthralling, page. With the historical understanding of Hilary Mantel and the storytelling gifts of Ken Follett, Francesca Stanfill has created an unforgettable character who, while firmly rooted in her era, is also a woman for all times." - from the inner front jacket flap. Singer, Nancy (book design);Poole, Phil (jacket design); Waring, Michael (author photographs) (illustrator). Signed by Author(s).

Eric Portman and Jessie Matthews Double Signed Card + Two Photographs
Eric Harold Portman (13 July 1901 - 7 December 1969) was an English stage and film actor. He is probably best remembered for his roles in several films for Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger during the 1940s. Jessie Matthews, OBE (11 March 1907 - 19 August 1981) was an English actress, dancer and singer of the 1920s and 1930s, whose career continued into the post-war period. After a string of hit stage musicals and films in the mid-1930s, Matthews developed a following in the USA, where she was dubbed "The Dancing Divinity". Her British studio was reluctant to let go of its biggest name, which resulted in offers for her to work in Hollywood being repeatedly rejected.
