Hardcover. Condition: Good. First edition. First edition, 1878. An American politician, William Banks Slaughter (1797-1879). Original brown cloth with dulled gilt title on front board Spine has chips to top 1/5 of spine, and title is dulled, not legible. In protective archival acetate jacket. Else good. Minor tape marks on endpapers. No former owner marks. In 1835 Slaughter became one of the first white settlers to take possession of land claims in the area of Madison, Wisconsin, in present Middleton. Slaughter was elected to the Michigan Territorial Legislature and helped with the creation and organization of the Wisconsin Territory. In 1837, President Jackson appointed Slaughter secretary of the Wisconsin Territory and he served until 1841.
