First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very good. First Edition. Octavo: xv, [1], 307, [1], [8, ads] pp. with numerous textual illustrations and diagrams, all wood engravings. In the publisher's forest green vertical ribbed cloth binding, with blind-stamped floral borders, spandrels, and ornamental bands, and gilt-stamped titling. Period previous owner's ink signature to the title page and the front flyleaf. Some mild foxing, more so to the endpapers. The top edge is dust stained. The spine is a touch toned, with a little bit of wear to the corners and tips; otherwise very good. Provenance: from the Publishers' Bookbindings collection of Ellen K. Morris and Edward S. Levin.
