The text block is in near fine condition with no marks, tears, or dog ears. There is no bookplate nor signature of previous owner. Not a library book nor remainder. Illustrated wraps are in good condition (edge chipping, white spot on front cover, slightly curled corner). 8 ½ x 5 ½, 97 pages, 5 ounces XX [from the back cover] About The Author: Madie B. Smith was born July 7, 1903 in Killeen, Texas, the only child of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Reece Brown. She was an honor graduate of Belton High School and received her BA degree from Mary Hardin-Baylor College at Belton in 1947 with a major in Journalism. Madie B. went to work for the Belton Bureau of the Temple Daily Telegram in 1929 and retired in 1970. Throughout her career she was a dedicated and loyal employee of her newspaper and was widely known throughout Central Texas through her writing about the courthouse, Belton, and Central Texas. In addition to the day-to-day news coverage which she provided for the Telegram, she found time to write her daily human interest feature column, "Hi Neighbor." During her career, Madie became widely recognized for her contribution to women's journalism. As an active member of the Texas Woman's Press Association she rose to be president, and served as regional director and was a member of the board of directors of the Federation of Press Women. Numerous awards came her way and she received six special awards from Associated Press during the time she wrote her "Hi Neighbor" column. Inscribed by Author(s).
