Staplebound. Condition: Very Good. Small bump/tear in bottom edge otherwise in fine collectible state. Staplebound 14 x 21,6 cm., 11 pages. Undated but clearly the 1960s. First the HQ on S street wasn't completed until 1961 and secondly the production values, graphics and appliances (the main two are electric skillet and blender) are also 1960s style. Anything that captions a paragraph with "Deep thoughts about deep frying" (page 10) must be considered worthy of the americana appellation. Rare 11 p. Book.

Undated but the production values and vintage graphics clearly indicate the 1960s as do the recipes themselves (French sounding titles that have nothing to do with French cuisine and fearless usage of food coloring, gelatin, canned tuna, etc). What makes SMUD stand out is first the recipes were developed in house and not purchased from the Culinary Institute of America or other such clearinghouses. Secondly, the sophistication and originality of these "holiday" recipes include such classics as fruitcake and eggnog but most of the recipes reflect the multicultural diversity of California and the state's cuisine. Just as an example these are the recipes on pages 14-15: Cheese Cutouts, Cherry Tomatoes with Guacamole, Lime Angel Tarts, Dickens Weal and Hammer, Cranberry Chiffon Pie. Superb vintage exemplar of Americana. 24 p. Book.

Staplebound. Condition: Very Good. Mild surface wear, two thumb dents on spine, in overall excellent condition. The special collections (simply called "The Sacramento Room") of the Sacramento Public Library purchased their copy from me in 2014 and estimated the date to be 1970. This is possible because I think this little cookbook has gone through multiple editions and printings. I believe this copy here to be closer to 1980 due to the clip art, fonts and layout. Also it would be around this time that the Home Economics Section would have changed its name to Consumer Education Staff. Also a recipe for "microwave fruitcake" probably did not come into vogue until around 1975 and then fell into disrepute by 1990 when California Cuisine to a sharp turn to the handcrafted. Staplebound 13,8 x 21,7 cm., 30 pages, superb exemplar of 1960s and 1970s americana. 30 p. Book.

Its aim was to offer a place of publication to the intellectuals of all its partners, in large part students of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters. They published essays, poetry, stories, notes, bibliographic comments. Centro magazine appeared in November 1951. It was the continuation of Verbum, whose ninety issues had been published between 1912 and 1948, as a continuation of the nineteen issues of the Boletín del Centro de Estudiantes de Filosofía y Letras, Universidad de Buenos Aires. Its fourteen issues were published until 1959 when it was closed by the publication of Carlos Correas's story "The narration of history" by the prosecutor De la Riestra during the government of Arturo Frondizi. As a student center magazine, it published articles on university politics, academic notes on the most varied subjects, essays, fiction, poetry and bibliographic reviews. Written by Darío J. Canton, Ana Adela Goutman, Noé Jitrik, Francisco M. Oddone, Esther M. Smud, Rodolfo Borello, Adelaida Gigli, Adolfo Prieto, Ana Beatriz Ilstein, Ismael and David Viñas, Oscar Masotta, Jorge Lafforgue, who directed his last two numbers.
