Published on the occasion of a 1975 exhibition at the David and Alfred Smart Gallery, University of Chicago. The exhibition featured photographs by Aaron Siskind that pay homage to Franz Kline. Aaron Siskind (1903-1991) was an American photographer who focused on taking up-close photos of textural surfaces that abstracted the original subject. Franz Kline (1910-1962) was an American painter who is best-known for his black-and-white "action paintings" consisting of expressive brushstrokes. Siskind and Kline were both part of the Abstract Expressionist movement. Siskind was a friend of Kline along with other Abstract Expressionist artists including Mark Rothko and Willem de Kooning. Foreword by Director Edward A. Maser with essays by Joel Snyder of the University of Chicago and Carl Chiarenza of Boston University. Heavy and oversized items may require additional shipping.
