H. Sonneschein's and its… contributors' incontrovertible humanistic viewpoints in matters of church, politics, literature and art. "Unter dem Titel 'Die Wahrheit' erscheint seit dem ersten 1. Januar d. J. zu St. Louis im Staate Missouri, eine 'Zeitschrft für freie Menschen,' deren erstes Monatsheft uns zugegangen ist. "Die Wahrheit" ist ein erfreulicher Beweis von dem Fortschritte literarischer Gesittung unter unseren Landsleuten in den Vereinigten Staaten. Der Herausgeber, Dr. S. H. Sonneschein, gehört, wie er in seinem Programme sagt, dem geistlichen Stande an, ist jedoch entschlossen, auch in kirchlichen Dingen stets der Wahrheit treu zu bleiben. Ihm ist, wie er hinzufügt, die Politik "die edle Kunst, das Volkswohl und den Völkerfrieden zu begründen und zu erhalten"; ihm ist die Religion "das Ideal der Sittlichkeit und Humanität auf Erden" und endlich ist ihm die Literatur "das sprachlich und gedanklich keusche Mittel für Geistes- und Herzensbildung." (Magazin für die Literatur des Auslandes, Leipzig). The magazine featured regular book reviews, aphorisms (Versprengte Körnlein), literary contributions, sociopolitical and art related editorials, e.g. women's issues, Goethe in Alsace-Lorraine, etc. Text in German. Pages 119-122 lose. Ex-Library copy with blind-stamp on the title page of the first issue. Very light age toning of block, edges with few small stains. Vertical folding crease in middle of book block. Protected in modern mylar.
