Die Spence-Brüder haben sich des "Struwwelpeter" von Heinrich Hoffmann angenommen (der geradezu gattungsprägend wurde, die seither erschienenen "Struwwelpeteriaden" füllen bald Bücherregale). Die Titelfigur des 1845 erschienenen Erstausgabe hat bereits die Ambivalenz in sich, die dieses Buch so geeignet erscheinen lässt für unterschiedlichste Bearbeitungen: zum einen als Schreckbild und Warnung ("werde bloß nicht wie der!"), zum anderen als Aufrührer und Rebell gegen die herrschende Ordnung und Sitte. Adolf Hitler, aber auch Aussenminister Ribbentrop, Propagandaminister Goebbels, Hermann Göring, Rudolf Hess und Mussolini werden in der vorliegenden Fassung verächtlich - um nicht zu sagen lächerlich - gemacht. Mit einem Vorwort von Joachim Fest - was der Auflage sicherlich zugute kommt, doch hätte man hier eine glücklichere Hand haben können, Fest ist schliesslich seit seiner monumentalen Hitler-Biographie nicht unumstritten.
