Important booklet of poetry, short stories and plays from some of the key figures in the Black Arts Movement including Leroi Jones and Sonia Sanchez. It was originally published as Afro-American Festival of the Arts Magazine in 1966. This is the 3rd printing (earlier printings are extremely difficult to obtain). Most pages are clean and unmarked. A few have a bent corner or light crease. There is a water stain in the lower left corner of the front cover and lower right corner of the back cover which also lightly stained the book's first and last pages. The upper right corner of the front cover and upper left corner of the back cover are mildly bent. Very little wear otherwise. (Note: Photos may show a flash reflection.) PayPal always welcome. We pack all our books with care and ship in cardboard boxes. Shipment outside of the United States may require extra funds. Additional photos emailed upon request.

Original wraps. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 8 1/2 X 11 1/8 Inches. The Journal of Black Poetry was an important magazine of the black arts era. The periodical included a note on the inside page announcing that "The Journal of Black Poetry is published for all black people everywhere." Dingane Joe Goncalves became Black Dialogue's poetry editor and, as more and more poetry poured in, he conceived of starting the Journal of Black Poetry. Founded in San Francisco, the first issue was a small magazine with mimeographed pages and a lithographed cover. Up through the summer of 1975, the journal published nineteen issues and grew to over one hundred pages in length. Collection of issues of The Journal of Black Poetry: Volume 1, Number 11 - Spring, 1969 Volume 1, Number 13 - Winter-Spring, 1970 Number 16 - Summer, 1972 Number 19 - Summer, 1975 (under new title) Light scuffing and a few spots to covers. An appealing lot overall. Issues of this journal are quite scarce in commerce.
