Add to basketCondition: Very Good. Landscape quarto. Gelatin silver bromide print (13 ½ x 12 ½ inches). Mounted on artist's board (20 x 16 inches) with a hinged matt frame partly pasted onto the top and side margins of the board. Signed and titled by Standish in pencil on the board directly underneath the mounted print. Laid down on the back… of the mount is a typed paper label (a technical note about the print and Boston address of Standish), and two printed exhibition labels. Also on the back is one exhibition ink stamp: "Philadelphia Salon of Photography". Light rubbing and one tiny surface abrasion to the print, a few measurements in red pencil on the margins underneath the outer matt frame, very good. Wavering reflections and the ghostly shapes of two sailboats in the background form a perfect setting for the white sailboat in the foreground in "Shrouded Morning" by L. Whitney Standish. A Boston architect, Standish was active as a pictorialist, teacher, and salon judge, from the mid-1930s through the 1950s. His pictures were exhibited in national salons and in the photographic press throughout the 1940s. He wrote several magazine articles on photography and is the author of the book: *Making Effective Photographs* published in 1949. "Shrouded Morning" is a fine example of his best work from the mid-1940s.
