Contact seller5-star sellerFirst British edition of the novel of the landmark âproverbial good science fiction movieâ he and Stanley Kubrick created, starring Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood. Octavo, original half cloth. Boldly signed by Keir Dullea on the title page and additionally signed by him on the front panel of the jacket. Near fine in a near fine d…ust jacket. Housed in a custom slip case. âKubrick wrote to me in the spring of 1964, asking if I had any ideas that would enable him to make the âproverbial good science fiction movie⦠I had already given Stanley a list of my shorter pieces, and we had decided that oneâ"âThe Sentinelââ"contained a basic idea on which we could build⦠Stanley suggested that before we embarked on the drudgery of the script, we let our imaginations soar freely by writing a complete novel, from which we could devise the script. This is more or less the way it worked out, though toward the end, novel and screenplay were being written simultaneously, with feedback in both directions. Thus, I rewrote some sections after seeing the movie rushesâ"a rather expensive method of literary creation, which few other authors have enjoyedâ (Clarke). With the success of both film and book, Clarke âbecame perhaps the best-known science fiction writer in the worldâ (Clute & Nicholls, 231). His novel (the first in an eventual tetraology) is âabout the two things Clarke seems to think we mortals would most like to know in a universe in which we can only hope that the odds are in favor of the raceâs survival: that we are not alone and that we have not lived in vainâ (John Hollow). Clarke wrote this novel while Stanley Kubrick created the film, the two collaborating on both projects. The novel is much more detailed and intimate, and definitely easier to comprehend. Even though history has disproved its "predictions," it's still loaded with exciting and awe-inspiring science fiction. -Brooks Peck Dazzling.wrenching.a mind-bender" (Time). "By standing the universe on its head, he makes us see the ordinary universe in a different light" (New Yorker). 2001: A Space Odyssey is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential films ever made. In 1991, it was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. Sight & Sound magazine ranked 2001: A Space Odyssey sixth in the top ten films of all time in its 2002 and 2012 critics' polls editions; it also tied for second place in the magazine's 2012 directors' poll. In 2010, it was named the greatest film of all time by The Moving Arts Film Journal.

Octavo, bound in full morocco by the Harcourt Bindery, gilt titles and tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, gilt ruling to the front and rear panels, gilt inner dentelles stamp-s…igned by the Harcourt Bindery, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. Boldly signed by Anthony Burgess on a page bound in. In fine condition. An exceptional presentation. The cinematic adaptation of A Clockwork Orange was accidental. Screenplay writer Terry Southern gave Stanley Kubrick a copy of the novel, but, as he was developing a Napoleon Bonaparterelated project, Kubrick put it aside. Soon afterward, however, the Bonaparte project was cancelled and, sometime later, Kubrick happened upon the novel. It had an immediate impact. Of his enthusiasm for it, Kubrick said, "I was excited by everything about it: The plot, the ideas, the characters, and, of course, the language. The story functions, of course, on several levels: Political, sociological, philosophical, and, what's most important, on a dreamlike psychological-symbolic level". Kubrick wrote a screenplay faithful to the novel, saying, "I think whatever Burgess had to say about the story was said in the book, but I did invent a few useful narrative ideas and reshape some of the scenes.".

Turkel has written a long full page inscription: ÒStanley Kubrick was a man who did not believe in Religion. God yes, Religion no. what is the one thing that all the m…ajor religions of the world find difficulty with ??? SEX, RightÓÓ In ÔEyes Wide ShutÕ the orgy scene was led - - - if you paid attention - - - by the three major religions. The costumes were that of a Rabbi, priest, and minister & the one thing that stuck out above all, were some of the loveliest high hipped full boobed (Is there such a word) beauties that ever graced the screen and were nude with full frontal nudity. In your face religion. Stanley got his revenge at Religious hypocrisy. Joseph Turkel.Ó Turkel has had a long distinguished career in film most notably working with film director Stanley Kubrick in The Killing, Paths of Glory, and The Shining, as well as playing Dr. Tyrell the creator of the androids in Bladerunner, the classic science fiction film. Contact seller5-star sellerOriginal LP of Stanley Kubrick's Clockwork Orange. Signed by Anthony Burgess on the front cover. In near fine condition. This is the first record we have seen signed by the creator of the classic novel. The soundtrack of A Clockwork Orange comprises classical music and electronic synthetic music composed by Wendy Carlos (then Wa…lter Carlos). Some of the music is heard only as excerpts, e.g. Edward Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1 (aka Land of Hope and Glory) ironically heralding a politician's appearance at the prison. The main theme is an electronic transcription of Henry Purcell's Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary, composed in 1695, for the procession of Queen Mary's cortà ge through London en route to Westminster Abbey. "March from 'A Clockwork Orange'" (based on the choral movement of the Ninth Symphony by Beethoven) was the first recorded song featuring a vocoder for the singing; synthpop bands often cite it as their inspiration. Neither the end credits nor the soundtrack album identify the orchestra playing the Ninth Symphony excerpts, however, in Alex's bedroom, there is a close-up of a microcassette tape labeled: Deutsche Grammophon â" Ludwig van Beethoven â" Symphonie Nr. 9 d-moll, op. 125 â" Berliner Philharmoniker â" Chor der St. Hedwigskathedrale â" Ferenc Fricsay â" Irmgard Seefried, Maureen Forrester, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Ernst Haefliger.
