HC. B&W and color illustrations (illustrator). 104pp ISBN 0831070862 Having grown up with "antique cars" (and my Dad did own one Stanley Steamer) I find this an authoritative and wonderfully nostalgic trip looking at these intricate machines. The author drove his Stanley Steamer, as did his friends, and the photographs of those trips are a great compliment to the text. very good w/lightly chipped dustjacket (hardcover).

Dr. Stanley graduated medical school and went to work at San Quentin as a prison doctor in 1913 and stayed until retirement in 1951. In this fascinating book of tales from prison, the author writes of the murderers, sex perverts, maniacs, thieves, and celebrities he encountered as chief surgeon of San Quentin. Case histories are woven into discussions of such serious topics as capital punishment and abortion, and such humorous sidelights as his popular "neurosis eradicator", a weird assortment of bottles filled with coloured water and wires running to nowhere. An entire chapter is devoted to a unique intervention with the notorious "Bluebeard" Watson, in which the wife killer explains how he felt while he murdered women. A clean very presentable and rare copy. Signed by Author(s).
