This was the first time the Association had met outside of the UK. The author's travelogue details their three-month, 16,000-mile journey up through South Africa and back down the east coast. The book provides a fascinating snapshot of South Africa at the time, and includes detailed descriptions of Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, and Bulawayo, as well as the Victoria Falls, and other sites of interest. The author was struck by the beauty of the scenery, the friendliness of the people and the importance of the mining industry. The book also provides insights into the social and political issues of the day, including the debate over Chinese labor in the mines and the legacy of the Boer War. This book is a valuable historical document and a fascinating glimpse into a bygone era. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
