Showing overall very minor rubbing and wear, few small marks, dustiness to edges and none of the usual fading, some very light rubbing to the spine, internally clean, bright and tight withneat ink writing and slight foxing to endpapers. First Edition. Ethel Stefana Stevens, Lady Drower weas a prominent early woman traveller to the middle east. Though untrained as a scholar, she learned Arabic while stationed with her husband in Iraq, and would later teach herself Aramaic as well. While in Iraq, Drower began to develop what would become a lifelong fascination with the Mandaeans. This copy of her famous work on Iraqi culture, religion, and archaeology has been rebound in a high quality binding of black quarter leather on cloth. No inscriptions. VG+. Scarce.
