Condition: as new. Contributions by Carel Blotkamp, Ruud Schenk, Jonneke Jobse & Daniel Dekkers. Groningen :Groninger Museum & Rotterdam : NAi, 2007. Hardcover. 285 pp. : illustrations (chiefly color) ; 29 cm. English text. - Issued in conjunctin with the exhibition "P. Struycken--Het digitale paradijs/ The Digital paradise", held Sept. 22-Dec. 2, 2007 at the Groninger Museum. Accompanied by 1 CD-ROM containing interactive panoramic images, produced by Carel Struycken, of nine of P. Struycken's architectural works. Peter Struycken designed an iconic (and still-circulating) Dutch postage stamp in 1980, which bears a computer-generated image of Queen Beatrix composed of hundreds of tiny, randomly colored dots. In explaining his choice, Struycken says, 'My use of dots in the representation of the portrait is related to my drawings and prints in which the dot is the smallest representation of color, and in itself, yields the least association with form.' A computer-design pioneer well known for his large-scale public projects, Struycken is one of the Netherlands' most innovative artists. In 1993, he was commissioned to design the arcade lighting for Jo Coenen's Netherlands Architecture Institute in Rotterdam and the tile and color scheme for Carel Weeber's 'De Struyck' student apartments in the Hague. This publication is the most comprehensive Struycken overview to date. It features illustrations of more than 80 of his most significant projects from 1955 to the present. Several incisive essays (by Carel Blotkamp, Daniel Dekkers, Jonneke Jobse and Ruud Schenk) contribute to our understanding of Struycken's methods and theories--especially about color. Included with the volume is a CD-ROM, which allows us to experience Struycken's fascinating work in 360-degree panorama shots. Condition : as new copy. ISBN 9789056626068. Keywords : ART,

Add to basketPaperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book details the German government's response to civilian behavior in Belgium during the early months of World War I. As a response to reports accusing the German army of misconduct, including murder, destruction of property, and abuse of cultural heritage, the government published a report including testimonies and evidence collected to justify the extreme actions carried out by the troops. The report claims that the Belgian civilian population engaged in combat against the German army, including armed resistance, which under international law meant they were not entitled to the protections afforded to non-combatants. The book includes first-hand accounts from soldiers who believed they were fired upon by civilians, civilians who were taken prisoner and faced severe punishment, and German officers who made life or death decisions in the heat of battle. Through these accounts, the author explores what happens when the rules of war blur as civilians are drawn into combat, the challenges of maintaining discipline and order in the chaos of war, and the lasting effects of wartime decisions on the soldiers who made them. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
