Condition: New. 2023 sb reprint (of original pub 1937). 392 pages , with 61 illustrations15Published Price £15 A banker and RNAS officer, Sueter became Secretary of the Landships Committee and Head of the Mechanical Warfare Supply Department of the Ministry of Munitions. This naval involvement in the tankâs development explains… such nautical tank terms as hatch, hull, bow and ports. Sueter was somewhat embittered as, in 1917, he clashed with the Admiralty and was posted to command the RNAS in Italy. While in Italy, Sueter sent a letter to King George which incurred the displeasure of the Sea Lords and he was relieved of command. He was given no work from 1918 to 1920 when he was retired as a rear-admiral. As might be expected, his tone is highly controversial. After leaving the Royal Navy he advised the United States and France on the development of armour.

Mint paperback reprint of a 1941 publication. 452pp. : Admiral Murray Sueter played a personal role in the development of the tank, and for that reason is a little partisan in parts of this account. However the advantage to the reader lies in the story of the development of armoured fighting vehicles from the point of view of a…participant. The book tells of the birth of the idea through to use in battle. A further important factor is that is this edition covers tank development up to the Second World War, and the author has expanded his original to include comments on foreign tanks and anti-tank methods.
