'Comet in Moominland' is the second in Tove Jansson's series of Moomin books. Originally published in 1946, it marks the first appearance of several main characters, such as Snufkin and the Snork Maiden. This first English translated edition, published in 1951, is a translation of the first version of Jansson's book, which she was later to revise. The revised version was published in 1968 and contains a number of minor differences; for instance, the Silk Monkey character is changed to a kitten. Contains 192 printed pages of text with splendid monochrome illustrations throughout. Some of the illustrations have been neatly coloured-in with water-colours, name to the half-title page, in matching slip case. Member of the P.B.F.A. CHILDREN'S & JUVENILE.

Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - Specializing in figure and landscape painting, Thegerström spent twelve years in France, where he found inspiration in the commune Lyons-la-Forêt, and spent several summers at the art colony in Grez-sur-Loing, before he settled in Sweden in 1892, producing moody landscapes from Djursholm and Särö. - A few tiny ink spots. Die Postkarte wurde verlegt bis jetzt, und hiermit habe ich das Vergnügen Ihnen meine Namenszeichnung zu überbringen [.] Ich und meine Frau samt einige Freunde übernachteten im Rostock Son[n]tag-Mondtag [!] im Rostocker Hafen auf unserer Reise mit Auto von Stockholm ab nach Rom. Reisen jetzt weiter durch Holland [.]". Signed twice (one recto and verso). - Specializing in landscape painting, Schultzberg was inspired by his native Sweden, especially Dalarna and Bergslagen, as well as by Corsica, France and Italy. He became a member of the Stockholm Academy in 1900 and was awarded a gold medal at the 1904 Saint Louis World Fair for organizing the Swedish exhibition. - Self-addressed by the collector. Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Mad nöje tillmötesgar jag Eder anhaltan och sänder härmed det önskade autogrammet [.]". - Admitted to the Stockholm Academy at the early age of 14, Kronberg specialized in mythological and religious themes, drawing on the works of Shakespeare as well as the Bible, and created canvases and ceiling frescoes for the Stockholm Palace or the Kronberg Royal Dramatic Theatre. - Postmarks on verso showing through; traces of a vertical fold. Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - A gifted caricaturist, Heine was a leading illustrator of the Munich-based humoristic and satirical magazines "Fliegende Blätter" and "Simplicissimus". His illustrated critiques of society and the monarchy in particular led to a six-month prison sentence in 1898; his caricatures of Nazi leaders forced him to flee Germany and emigrate to Prague, Oslo and finally Stockholm, where he published his cynical autobiography "Ich warte auf Wunder" in 1942. - A few small ink spots. He inspired other artists to follow his example and established the artists' colony Rackengruppen. His landscape paintings from Värmland, frequently depicting winter and evening scenery, met with approval at several Stockholm exhibitions. - Some small ink spots.
