This author is believed to ha…ve evolved into the well-known political opinion columnist Marc Munroe Dion, who doesn't believe in choosing sides. His experience on his high school debate team -- where he was the No. 5 ranked high school orator in America in 1975 -- led him through college, graduate school, and finally into a job at the Associated Press. Dion also wrote for papers such as the Kansas City Star and Providence Journal before starting his column "Living and Dion." His working-class upbringing and independent leanings mix with his sense of humor to shine a light on political issues, as opposed to political parties. Marc Munroe Dionaward-winning veteran reporter and Pulitzer Prize-nominated newspaper columnistis an old-school newsman who fell out of a Frank Capra movie, complete with pipe and fedora. Born in the struggling former cotton mill town of Fall River, Massachusetts, Dion's sense of humor sounds more like a barroom than a newsroom, and his political observations are more concerned with issues than political parties. Dion's column, "Living and Dion," appeared in The Herald News for 25 years. He did talk radio for three years and is now doing a daily political podcast in his hometown. Marc Dion twice won the Barbara Storck Award for poetry and fiction at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He also won the Bob Woodley Award at Washburn University. In 1984 he was one of the winners of Kindred Spirits' poetry contest. A reviewer for the Kansas City Star, Dion also worked for the Associated Press.
