Scarce. Minamoto no Yoshitsune (???, 1159?1189) has long been remembered in Japan as a legendary and tragic hero. Though believed to have died at Koromogawa in northern Japan in 1189, later tradition generated numerous stories claiming that he survived the battle and escaped north to Hokkaido, then onward to China and Mongolia, where, in some versions, he became either Genghis Khan or the founding emperor of the Qing dynasty. In 1766 T? Eish? published a novel presenting one such legend, in which Yoshitsune fights the forces of Ezo (the Ainu people) before sailing to China and becoming the founding emperor of the Qing dynasty. These three volumes comprise a hand-copied manuscript of T? Eish??s novel. The precise date of the manuscript is unclear, though it was most likely copied in the Meiji period.
