Hardcover. Condition: New. Geoinformatics is a new discipline integrating element for various disciplines dealing with geographic data. It deals with management, analysis and presentation of geographic and other spatially defined data. It includes Surveying, Remote Sensing (RS), Geographical Information System (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), Photogrammetry, Cartography, Geography, Computer Science and Statistics. It has emerged as a credible tool in mapping, modelling, monitoring and managing natural resources, environment and natural disasters, which are vital components in sustainable development planning. Geoinformatics is a powerful tool to create maps, integrate information, visualise scenarios, solve complicated problems, present ideas and develop effective solution. Geoinformatics is the integration of different disciplines dealing with spatial information. The advent of Satellite Remote Sensing (SRE) and subsequent development of Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) have made significant changes in surveying and map making. In light of this, both in the academia and the industry, these topics have been brought together under one umbrella term Geoinformatics. This book will be invaluable for students pursuing various courses on Geoinformatics, environment studies, Agricultural sciences, geology, and geography and will prove useful and handy for professionals pursuing GPS and GIS. The entire book has been divided into 21 chapters.

Hardcover. Condition: New. The present book is most gigantic in view of widespread area of the country with most adverse condition due to recurrence of drought. Severity of drought is converted in to famine when it is combination of agricultural drought, hydrological and meteorological drought. There becomes acute shortage of food grain, fodder and drinking water in the affected regions. Droughts affect the agriculture production to severe extent, create problem of food grain, fodder and water to the critical level of survival. Socio-economic conditions of the people is dwindled as agriculture is their source of livelihood and all expectations of the people depend on the ensuing crop. Drought proofing activities initiated for scaling down the impact of droughts could not yield desired results in view of faulty process of implementation in isolation without associating the people in decision making process. The problems cropping up as impact of drought are increasing continuously. For minimizing the impact of drought, it is necessary to focus the activities on rain water harvesting, plantation activities in 33 percent of area comprising of degraded forests, waste land, barren land and permanent pastures is necessary to treat for existing deficiencies. The occurrence of drought due to rainfall failure would continue but its impact and magnitude would be decreased significantly as people of the affected regions would have sustainable livelihood support from plantation. The socio-economic conditions of the people of the area would change to significant extent.

Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. Desertification means land degradation in arid, semiarid, and dry sub-humid areas resulting from various factors, including climatic variations and human activities. Combat Desertification advocates for the importance of inclusive cooperation to restore and rehabilitate degraded land and contribute towards achieving the overall Sustainable Development Goals. Land has been an overlooked component in sustainable development for years. Now, we view land as a vital link to provide solutions to cope with many other development challenges such as climate change, secure water and energy resources, promoting inclusive growth, and so on. It is widely accepted that satellite remote sensing and Geo-informatics system offers considerable advantages for land degradation and desertification assessments. With a comprehensive spatial coverage it is intrinsically synoptic, and provides objective, repetitive data which contribute to resource assessments and monitoring concepts of the process of desertification. However, if these observations can be coupled with GIS-based ecological modeling concepts, they may develop their full capacity to be used for modifying and adapting mitigation strategies. (jacket).

Book
Hardcover. Condition: New. Synopsis Contents: Preface. 1. Introduction. 2. Environment state. 3. Indicators of desertification. 4. Degree and extent of desertification. 5. Process and causes of desertification. 6. Biotechnology for combating desertification. 7. Biotechnology and mitigation measure for desertification. 8. Mitigation technologies and approaches. 9. Studies of agro-ecological regions. 10. Strategy and planning for combating desertification and land degradation. Bibliography. Desertification is a human and social problem which is not susceptible to quick solutions, but is already urgent in arid, semi-arid and sub-humid dryland regions, Desertification commonly appears as degradation of plant, animal, soil and water resources and general loss of biological productivity in areas under ecological stress. In fragile ecosystems, degradation can easily become irreversible and permanently reduce the capacity of the areas affected to support human life. Bio-technology has most important role in effective mitigation of desertification and all degraded lands are possible to be treated through these devices. Application of bio-technology in the field of agriculture relates mainly to improvement in production and productivity. Food and nutrition situation depend on land, water and energy resources which are generally limited. The biotechnology addresses research aimed at increasing production, higher nutritional value, greater plant resistance to adverse weather conditions, pathogenic agents and pests. The contribution of plant genetics in recent discoveries in molecular biology and exploitation of certain characters peculiar to plants.
