From the artist behind the critically acclaimed, award-winning, New York Times #1 bestselling graphic novel Logicomix comes a graphic novel about the life and legacy of Aristotle, the polymath who became one of the founding figures of modern thought Little is known about the early life of Aristotle, the polymath who would go on to serve as a cultural cornerstone of modern thought and scholarship. Alecos Papadatos, the artist behind the critically acclaimed, award-winning, New York Times #1 bestselling graphic novel Logicomix, and Tassos Apostolidis, an author and teacher, team up to bring his story to life, following the trail of clues to paint a picture of the great man and his philosophy. The son of a renowned Macedonian physician, Aristotle pursues his studies in Athens and becomes one of Platos favorite disciples. A great scholar, he even serves as Alexander the Great, Ptolemy, and Cassanders personal tutor. For many, that would be the high point of their career, but Aristotle goes on to found his own school, the Lyceum. There, he transmits his knowledge and passion to any student wishing to embark on an intellectual and philosophical journey. Most of his works that have endured to this day are from this crucial time, thought to be lecture aids for his students. The fact that these were not likely intended for publication and yet have had such an astounding influence on every school of Western thought, speak to the monumental legacy which Papadatos and Apostolidis carefully reconstruct in this compelling and informative graphic novel. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. The Brandenburg class battleships were the first blue water warships of the Kaiserliche Marine (Imperial German Navy), in the end of 19th century, and can be categorised as the first German pre-dreadnought ships. Imperial German Navy was founded in 1871 under the auspices of Kaiser Wilhem I. The German Navy was created around the small Prussian Navy. Initially the Germans ordered several obsolete ironclads. However, the new German Navy was only capable for coastal defense operations and could not be considered as an instrument for the WeltPolitik and for the projection of German power worldwide. In 1888 the most modern ships of the German fleet were the six Siegfried class (3.400 tons) and two Odin class coastal defense ships. The new Kaiser Wilhem II the architect of the German Naval expansion, decided to challenge England's hegemony in the seas. As first step he established in 1888 the Imperial Naval Office (Reichmarineamt) a governmental agency monitoring the design, development and financing of the new fleet units. Under the leadership of Vice-Admiral Alexander von Monts, the Imperial Naval Office started to implement the naval visions of Kaiser Wilhem II. 134 colour profiles, B2 drawings The Brandenburg class battleships were the first blue water warships of the Kaiserliche Marine and can be categorized as the first German pre-dreadnought ships. The ship initially (1907) was ordered for Marinha do Brasil, but one year later the Brazilian government abandoned the order. As a result of this decision, the construction works for the armored cruiser halted. However in 1909 the ship was acquired by the Royal Hellenic Navy and named Georgios Averof. 122 colour profiles Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
