This one is about a blind police surgeon, his seeing-eye dog, & 14-year-old nephew who together solve many thrilling mysteries. Designed to appeal to "the adventurous youth of today.girls as well as boys." A Foreword explains hos the Seeing Eye Foundation trains dogs in real life to work with the blind. In 246 pages, this is a FIRST EDITION, unknown printing, from 1935, Slightly larger (small octavo) than the usual series book size, with green cloth-covered boards stamped in black lettering to front & spine. Condition is VG: very clean, pages moderately tanned, heavier around edge, but completely unmarked. Text block is strong & straight, hinges secure. Bumping to center of lower front board & outer corner of same. The unclipped DJ is VG-: colorful & bright with cover art by Two Taylor, showing slight chipping at both ends of spine & rubbing to extremities; protected in clear mylar cover by former owner. This copy Number 48 of 300. Signed on rear page in blue ink above limitation "Taylor McCall" (image 2). Then with an inked dedication to the top right of the Front Free Endpaper "To Owen. With Best Wishes from Mick and Sheena. Taylor McCall. 18.6.70. Taylor McCall" (Image 1). 104 pages, for edge and bottom edge uncut (untrimmed). Printed at Compton Press, Compton Chamberlayne, Salisbury. Wilts. Aphorisms, poetry fragments and sayings etc all beautifully illustrated. These gentle illustrations hand painted by both the Authors (Images 4 & 5). Just the most lovely copy.

In worn envelope with Penny Red stamp and postmark, and slight loss around flap. The envelope was no doubt retained because it was addressed by Delaunay to 'Sir Tom Taylor / Lavender Sweet [sic] / Wandsworth'. A neatly laid written and laid out communication, addressed to 'Cher Monsieur Taylor' and signed 'Yours truly / L Delaunay / de la Comedie française'. He regrets that he and his wife cannot accept Taylor's 'très cordiale invitation', as they accepted a similar one ten days before from 'Mr. & Mrs William Spottiswode' [sic]. He concludes with the thought that it would have been 'bien agréable de faire plus ample connaissance avec un homme d'un esprit aussi fin et aussi distingué'.

This is the first omnibus edition of these two works, from the personal library of the author. (illustrator). Omnibus Edition. Octavo, 829pp, [1]. Finely bound in full purple morocco, detailed gilt border. Five raised bands, title in gilt on spine. Heavily sunned spine, purple lifted to tan. All edges gilt, gilt turn-ins, marbled endpapers. Books from the library of Barbara Taylor Bradford are bound in the style of the Bayntun-Riviere Bindery. Stated "This omnibus edition first published exclusively for Marks and Spencer plc 1989 by Grafton Books" on copyright page. Solid text block, appears unread. Housed in a matching purple morocco slipcase, similarly sunned. A vibrant example. Provenance: Doyle Auctions of New York, May 2025. This copy is from the private collection of Barbara Taylor Bradford, a British-American novelist. Following the success of her debut novel, A Woman of Substance (1979), Bradford wrote 40 best-selling novels, often about young women advancing in the world through hard work.

Signed presentation from Taylor on a front blank page: "To Mrs. R.J. Pidge, with grateful remembrances of her Bro. in Jesus. Wm. Taylor (the author). July 29th 1879." Also with a small paper engravings of Taylor, also signed by him. An account of a religious missionary in South America by an American Missionary Bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Taylor was converted in 1841 at a Methodist Episcopal camp meeting. Appointed a Methodist missionary to California (1849), he ministered to Native Americans and Chinese immigrants, and to the sick and the poor. Taylor?s experiences as an entrepreneurial missionary on the frontier became paradigmatic for the concepts he later called ?Pauline Missions.? Taylor visited Australia and New Zealand (1863-1866) and then South Africa (in 1866) where his evangelistic campaigns among the black population were revolutionary. Elected in 1884 as Methodist Episcopal missionary bishop for Africa, he established self-supporting churches in southern Liberia, Sierre Leone, Angola, Mozambique, and Zaire. Signed.

Begins: 'Dear Mr Taylor - / I am just come home from seeing "the ticket of leave man," & before I go to bed I must thank you for an evening of very great enjoyment.' It pleased him 'to see so good a play, not taken from the French, but really English, [the play was in fact adapted from the French] & teaching the public what is true instead of encouraging a popular delusion of the day'. Taylor has been 'very lucky too' in his actors, and 'the whole play is capitally got up, & I do not know that I ever enjoyed one more'. Good firm valediction: 'Very faithfully / Grey'.
