A paper read before The Contemporary Club, Davenport, Iowa on October 12, 1927. CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Near fine in wrappers. Interior is clean and tight. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: Camp McClellan is a former Union Army camp in Davenport, Iowa, established in August 1861 at the beginning of the Civil War. First a training grounds for recruits and a hospital for the wounded. In 1863 it became a prison camp for Sioux, or Dakota, Indians that were involved in raids in Minnesota. The camp was decommissioned after the release of the prisoners in 1866. REFERENCES: Dorn III #1128.
