Portfolio housed in a red cloth chemise, with blue lettering to spine. Chemise housed in its matching burgundy cloth slipcase. Hand-signed etched frontispiece. Accompanying a text by Arturo Schwarz, this portfolio contains four striking color etchings (including frontispiece) by André Masson, one of the pioneers of Surrealism. Each etching is tissue-guarded, and hand-signed by the artist in pencil at lower right margin. One of 150 numbered copy on Vélin d'Arches paper, of which this copy is. unnumbered! Text in French. Slipcase, chemise, wrappers and interior in overall very good condition. Arturo Schwarz (born in 1924) is an Italian scholar, art historian, poet, writer, lecturer, art consultant and curator of international art exhibitions. He lives in Milan, where he has amassed a large collection of Dada and Surrealist art, including many works by personal friends such as Marcel Duchamp, André Breton, Man Ray, and Jean Arp.
