This collection of drawings by Jean Dubuffet (1901 - 1985) was issued by the Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 1968., and distributed by New York Graphic Society in Greenwich, Connecticut. With an incisive introduction by Virginia Allen, the book provides a good introduction to the… graphic art of Mr. Dubuffet, whose drawings may amuse, confuse … or even outrage the viewer. Said Jean Dubuffet, when describing the creative experience: "There is no art without intoxication. But I mean a mad intoxication! Let reason teeter! Delirium! the highest degree of delirium! Plunged in burning dementia! Art is the most enraptured orgy within man's reach. Art must make you laugh a little and make you a little afraid. Anything so long as it does not bore." TITLE : Jean Dubuffet - Drawings INTRODUCTION : Virginia Allen AEGIS : The Museum of Modern Art, New York IMPRINT : Graphic Society of New York PLACE : Greenwich, Connecticut DATE : (1968) EDITION : First Edition. STATUS : OP PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION : Paperback Format; Contains 38 drawings reproduced in monochrome; [38] pages; 8 5/16" x 9 1/2", printed wraps, glued. Cover printed black on white. The cover, front and back, displays modest surface rub, and has various vague surface marks (blind indentations which are more or less visible, depending on the angle of viewing), but the whole is basically clean and bright.
