Top 2cm of spine has come adrift and have been Sellotapes. Bottom spine shelf worn. Black end papers. Minor foxing to title pages. Small neat signature dated October 1884 to first title page. ow clean copy internally.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Gordon Home (illustrator). Published by A & C black in 1916. Size: 6 1/2 x 9 inches or 16.5 x 22.5 cms. Page number: 10 pages of text. 69 illustrations ( 32 in colour, 39 black and white). Hardcover. Yellow boards with brown lettering to front and spine and a picture of The Syrup Seller on the front. The author states that ' to speak of the Egyptians at the present day is almost impossible. Such a strangely mixed aggregation of Levantine races dwells in the delta and valley of The Nile that it is safer to speak of the people of Egypt than of Egyptians.' This aggregation is illustrated by Gordon Home. It includes the Peep-show Man, Dragoman, Running Sais, Incense Burner, Shadoof Men, Monkey Boy, Bisharien Arab and Public Cook. Condition: Very Good. The cover is a little rubbed and slightly grubby with a dark mark on the back board. The coloured picture of The Water Carrier within is slightly damaged. It sits unevenly in the text block. Also the black and white picture that precedes it. The rest of the book is clean; the pages being fresh and un-thumbed.The binding remains secure.

(illustrator). 4th Edition. 400 pages with 50 wood engraved plates by Orrin Smith after Kenny Meadows + an engraved frontis and half title and woodcut illustrations to the preface, in the original green blind stamped cloth with gilt decorated spine, boards a little faded at edges and spine, contents very good except where the top edges have been opened when attached from the printers (as partly unopened) and some closed splits have occurred to several pages and some longish tears on one page, no loss of text. Small octavo no date c1846-50. *The essays on various characters and professions with their PORTRAITS. Half green leather with marble boards, ornate gilt decorated raised banded spine with gilt title and volume number on red and green labels respectively. Marbled endpapers and marble text block edges. Both volumes in very good condition with some rubbing in the usual places, corners, edges and spine ends. Some age related marks to the boards overall. Previous owner's name/address stamped inside both volumes to ffep and prelim pages. Considerably foxing throughout both volumes. No inscriptions.
