Page number: 10 pages of text. 69 illustrations ( 32 in colour, 39 black and white). Hardcover. Yellow boards with brown lettering to front and spine and a picture of The Syrup Seller on the front. The author states that ' to speak of the Egyptians at the present day is almost impossible. Such a strangely mixed aggregation of Levantine races dwells in the delta and valley of The Nile that it is safer to speak of the people of Egypt than of Egyptians.' This aggregation is illustrated by Gordon Home. It includes the Peep-show Man, Dragoman, Running Sais, Incense Burner, Shadoof Men, Monkey Boy, Bisharien Arab and Public Cook. Condition: Very Good. The cover is a little rubbed and slightly grubby with a dark mark on the back board. The coloured picture of The Water Carrier within is slightly damaged. It sits unevenly in the text block. Also the black and white picture that precedes it. The rest of the book is clean; the pages being fresh and un-thumbed.The binding remains secure.
