Top edge gilt. Original quarter maroon-coated leather. Spine titled in gilt, with gilt rules at head and foot, and single modest decoration in gilt. Maroon cloth-covered boards. Original black endpapers, engraved bookplate of E. Verrinder Sydenham on front pastedown. Spine a little worn at head and foot, with a few minor grazes, and with a little paper residue from unknown source close to foot. Front hinge with splits at head and foot; rear hinge almost completely split, along which a little loss of hide at foot and spots of slight loss elsewheres. Hide overlapping front board with loss of roughly oval patch of length 2cm and width up to 1cm. Front board otherwise a little darkened towards edges, lightly bumped at fore-edge, with one or two minor spot-stains, and single dark spot-stain around which a little lightening of tone and slight cloth-lift. Rear board with single pink spot-stain at fore-edge. Outer corners of boards a little rubbed. No dust jacket. Hinge slack between flyleaf and first preliminary leaf. Two consecutive leaves - pages 109-112 - with cluster of fairly minor spot-stains, effects on text and illustrations minimal. Final page and facing (white) side of flyleaf dust-marked and lightly but quite densely spotted. Fore- & lower edges of text-block a little toned. The whole a little shaken, though binding reasonably sound, and contents generally clean and fresh. GOOD copy. (Heavy item, overseas shipping at cost.).
