Paperback. Condition: Good. Tom Berthel first met Hall of Fame football coach Hayden Fry when, in the mid-1980s, his investment firm, Berthel Fisher & Co., became a corporate sponsor of the University of Iowa Athletic Department. This business partnership not only helped Berthel Fisher establish a winning public image, but it also gave birth to one of the most important and enduring friendships of Tom Berthel?s life. Fry became a mentor and father figure to Berthel, and the wisdom Fry bestowed on him through their mutual friendship taught Berthel invaluable lessons in leadership, motivation, and what it takes to be a winner in business and in life. These are the lessons that form the core of Beyond Xs and Os. In the book, Tom Berthel recounts the many lessons he learned from Coach Frysome but not all related to footballand explains how they helped shape his life and business. In each chapter, Berthel outlines a specific lesson he learned from Coach Fry, explains how he integrated these philosophies into his business and personal life, and offers advice to help readers apply them to their own lives and businesses. Each chapter also features a special "Postgame with Coach Fry? sidebar written by the venerable Coach Fry himself, in which he reflects on the events and lessons depicted in the chapter and offers a deeper perspective on each, enriching the lesson.Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Sports Publishing imprint, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in sportsbooks about baseball, pro football, college football, pro and college basketball, hockey, or soccer, we have a book about your sport or your team.Whether you are a New York Yankees fan or hail from Red Sox nation; whether you are a die-hard Green Bay Packers or Dallas Cowboys fan; whether you root for the Kentucky Wildcats, Louisville Cardinals, UCLA Bruins, or Kansas Jayhawks; whether you route for the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, or Los Angeles Kings; we have a book for you. This novel is a historically-grounded political thriller set in the fall of 1980 at the University of Texas with two political science professors, who were confidants of LBJ throughout his political career. The White House files of one of the professors, the architect or the Great Society legislation, are exposed, revealing the political rationale underlying the creation of a welfare society. Possession of these documents becomes a strategic priority for a myriad of competing political and foreign national interests, because they offer limitless future leverage leading to control of the US government and its leaders.…

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Jess finds himself in the town of Appleton, Texas, where he finds Lance 'Lucky' Leyden. Finding no law in town, he hauls the body to the town of Avery, Texas, to make a claim for the bounty on Leyden's head. While there, he discovers that the next man he's hunting, Lowe Rogan, is hanging around a town everyone calls Hades. They claim that the town rose up from the depths of hell and is rife with demons and witches. Jess doesn't believe any of it. He finds the town and discovers that it has been taken over by the Roper brothers and their gang of cold-blooded killers, including Lowe Rogan. Jess tracks Rogan from Hades to the town of Chilton, where he ends up killing him and another man by the name of Arron Carmichael. The law in Chilton, along with all the townsfolk, are terrified of the Roper brothers and their men. They believe that the town of Hades is cursed. Jess demands that the town marshal pay him his bounty on Rogan and he does so reluctantly. Roper's men take revenge on the town of Chilton by hanging the town marshal, leaving Jess feeling responsible for it. He vows to remove every cold-blooded killer from Hades and save the town, but he's up against some of the worst killers in the west. Then, the brother of Arron Carmichael, Jason, shows up in Chilton to kill Jess as a revenge killing. But surprisingly, Jason Carmichael teams up with Jess to rid Hades of Roper's ruthless gang of killers. Jess quickly finds out that Carmichael is suffering from bad memories of the Civil War and worries that Carmichael might just get him killed. The battle begins, lead starts flying and men start dying. Jess hopes that he's still standing when it's over, but he finds the job of saving what's left of Hades a much more difficult task. At the same time, he wonders if Jason Carmichael is helping only to find the perfect time to kill him for killing his brother Arron. …

Paperback. Condition: Good. Reshaped became an important word in the title as I typed my last words of the manuscript. I had other titles floating in my head, but it wasn't until that last page was being formulated when it hit me like a lightning bolt: I've been reshaped by each and every experience in life. It was my aha moment. The events of my father's death when I was two years old, a sexual assault at eleven years old, and the death of my son when he was just thirty-nine could have left me deeply scarred and damaged. There are scars, and there certainly will be residual damage forever, but events such as these thrust me into a journey of faith that I shared with others. Faith is about accompanying others along the highs and lows of everyday life.We all have uncommon journeys. My journey is not a blueprint to follow. The journey featured bumpy roads, hilly terrain, some dead ends, and some wonderful stops along the way. Many of us have these common elements on life's highway. Many of us rebound quickly from loss and hurt and pain. Others turn away from the bumps and the dead ends. Some miss out on the beauty of everyday encounters with the people of God.Reshaped is intended to reach the silent victims who remain breathing yet live in the shadows of everyday life. Reshaped is intended to speak to parish and church leaders everywhere not only to applaud them for their current efforts but also to invite them to remain vigilant always as the problem is not gone.Be aware always of the harm done. Be diligent to protect children, adolescents, the elderly, and all under our care always.…

Hardback. Condition: Very Good. This is the story of one woman's decision to forfeit a brilliant career for the sake of motherhood. Once a child prodigy, Gitta Gradova traveled the world as an internationally acclaimed concert pianist, performing recitals as well as appearing with prominent orchestras of her era. Her son Thomas J. Cottle uses written records, interviews, and personal reminiscence to reconstruct her life, as well as their own mother-son relationship. He is at times a storyteller, at times a psychologist, at times a son seeking to uncover those aspects of his mother's life he could never know, or perhaps, chose not to know until it was too late.…

Hardback. Condition: Good. Adopted by the US Navy for issue to all new sailors, A Sailor's History of the U.S. Navy brings to life the events that have shaped and inspired the navy of today while highlighting the roles of all sailors--from seaman to admiral. Rather than focus entirely upon such naval icons as Stephen Decatur and Chester Nimitz, as most histories do, author Thomas J. Cutler, a retired lieutenant commander, brings to the forefront the contributions of enlisted people. You'll hear about Quartermaster Peter Williams, who steered the ironclad Monitor into history, and Hospital Corpsman Tayinikia Campbell, who saved lives in US Cole after she was struck by terrorists in Yemen. Unlike most histories, A Sailor's History is arranged thematically rather than chronologically. Chapters are built around the navy's core values of honor, courage, and commitment, its traditions of Don't Tread on Me and Don't Give Up the Ship, and other significant aspects of the navy. As Cutler states in his preface, the book is not a whitewash. He includes mistakes and defeats along with the achievements and victories as he draws a portrait of a navy growing stronger and smarter while turning tragedy into triumph. The result is a unique account that captures the navy's heritage as much as its history and provides inspiration as well as information while emphasizing that most essential element of naval history: the Sailor.…

Hardback. Condition: Good. Why aren't I as wealthy as I should be? Many people ask this question of themselves all the time. Often they are hard-working, well educated middle- to high-income people. Why, then, are so few affluent. For nearly two decades the answer has been found in the bestselling The Millionaire Next Door: The Surprising Secrets of America's Wealthy, reissued with a new foreword for the twenty-first century. According to the authors, most people have it all wrong about how you become wealthy in America. Wealth in America is more often the result of hard work, diligent savings, and living below your means than it is about inheritance, advance degrees, and even intelligence. The Millionaire Next Door identifies seven common traits that show up again and again among those who have accumulated wealth. You will learn, for example, that millionaires bargain shop for used cars, pay a tiny fraction of their wealth in income tax, raise children who are often unaware of their family's wealth until they are adults, and, above all, reject the big-spending lifestyles most of us associate with rich people. In fact, you will learn that the flashy millionaires glamorized in the media represent only a tiny minority of America's rich. Most of the truly wealthy in this country don't live in Beverly Hills or on Park Avenue-they live next door.…
