After publishing several successively enlarged editions of his first collection of stories through Stockwell (the vanity publisher), the author published these seventeen new stories himself as a separate book, adding "2nd Series" to the title. Thompson later put out an omnibus edition of his ghost stories in the 1960s, which is a common book, but these early editions are quite uncommon. Many of the stories are set in the eighteenth century, a period about which the author wrote nonfiction as well. "Not as badly done as one might suppose, but lacking the skill of a professional storyteller." - Robert Knowlton. A fine copy in fine pictorial dust jacket. (#118955).
