He is most famous for surviving a 2,000-mile dog sled trek to the North Pole in 1934, upon which this book is based. Later in life, he became a showman, presenting at the WorldÃs Fair and other events.

The book has clean covers, very minor rubbing tips corners (= loss of some color), old owner bookplate on FFEP otherwise no writing or marks on any pages (other than Irwin's signed inscription), no foxing, solid binding, complete with all pages and plates. The original dust jacket has 2cm deep loss at top of spine, 2cm tear top top front near spine, edge wear, original printed price still present on front flap corner. The book measures 220mm tall x 145mm, and has 254 pages, 17 b/w photos, EP map. Account of Irwin's 3,600-mile dog-sledge trip from Nome Alaska to Churchill on Hudson Bay. Initially he joined another to help him wrangle a giant herd of reindeer to feed starving Eskimos, but shortly departed on his own, due to hostilities, for the solo trip to Churchill.
