Trade Paperback. Condition: Very Good. No Stock Photos! We photograph every item. light edge wear; Peace, Love, & Liberty, a provocative new book of essays edited by Dr. Tom G. Palmer on the topics of peace and war published September 15, 2014.War is not inevitable. But peace cannot be achieved by wishful thinking alone. This book presents the evidence regarding what fosters peace, and what disturbs it with conflict. The data demonstrate that the world can continue to grow more peaceful if we limit government and foster open trade, the rule of law, and equal rights. It takes an unflinching look at the ideologies of conflict on the hard Left and hard Right -- and presents an alternative that can be the basis of a new, smart, evidence-based Peace Movement. Essays include:The Decline of War and Conceptions of Human Nature (Steven Pinker, Professor, Harvard University)The Free Trade Peace (Erik Gartzke, Associate Professor, University of California, San Diego and professor, University of Essex)The American Enlightenment?s Wariness of War (Robert M.S. McDonald, Associate Professor, United States Military Academy)The Militarization of Policing (Radley Balko, journalist, Washington Post and investigative reporter, Huffington Post)The Art of War (Sarah Skwire, author and award winning poet).

32p., sixteen 8.5x11 inch sheet stapled upper-left corner, mimeographed, light foxing and wear else good, Don Jackson's signature and address in ink with several numbers and notes. Includes a message from Virginia Miller, president of the League, minutes of the last meeting and letters from members including Jackson. According to the Online Archive of California, Bancroft: "The Sexual Freedom League was founded in 1963 in New York City. Julian Beck, Allen Ginsberg, and Dr. Leo Koch were among those on the Advisory Committee of the original group, which was active in demonstrations for a wide range of causes." The original SFL was formed in NYC by Jefferson Poland in 1963 as New York City League for Sexual Freedom. When Poland moved to the Bay Area from NYC in 1966 he founded the SFL in East Bay which was a loose-knit group with few rules, little organization and no fees. After he split several others stepped in to create their own versions of the league including Richard Thorne, Margo Rila and her husband Frank Esposito Rila. By 1971 several SFL chapters had formed around the US including the one Don Jackson was a member of. Jackson, whose copy this is, was a gay activist in Southern California who contributed to The Alpine County Project aka Stonewall Nation. In a letter responding to internal strife over Liberal and Conservative leaders in the SFL Jackson, a Libertarian, offered himself as a Liberal candidate for office. The San Francisco chapter was headed up by Margo St. James at this time.
