It contains transcriptions of journals kept by four authors who recorded daily life and activities at two of Hudson's Bay Company (HBC)'s trade posts, Edmonton House and Chesterfield House, from 1795-1800 and 1800-1802, respectively. The authors are HBC "Chief" William Tomison, HBC "Resident" George Sutherland, and HBC fur traders James Bird and Peter Fidler. The transcriptions include chronological journal entries written by day and correspondence. Contents are listed as follows under "Edmonton House Journals and Correspondence": "1795-1796 William Tomison," "1796-1797 George Sutherland," "1797-1798 William Tomison," "1798-1799 William Tomison," and "1799-1800 James Bird." Contents under "Chesterfield House Journals and Correspondence: "1800-1801 Peter Fidler" and "1801-1802 Peter Fidler." These volumes contain transcriptions of journals kept by members of the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) when the company expanded inland in the Sasakatchewan from York Fort in the late eighteenth century. Edited by E. E. Rich who was assisted by A. M. Johnson. In the Introduction, Glover provides the historical context and background information relating to the journals. Vol. I contains transcriptions of the journal entries kept at one of HBC's principal trading posts, Cumberland House, from 1775-1779 as well as entries kept at Cumberland's outpost from 1778-1779. Vol. II contains transcriptions of journal entries kept at both Cumberland House and its outpost from 1779-1782. Authors of the original journals include Matthew Cocking and William Tomison Master. Front colophon in each volume: "This copy is No. [blank] of a limited Edition which is issued only to subscribers to the Hudson's Bay Record Society.".
