Pagination: volume I -- xii, 310, [2] pp; volume II -- xii, 312, [8] pp. Each volume has a b/w engraved frontispiece. Title page and spines show the author's name as "Townshend" instead of "Townsend." Trimmed and rebound. Uniform binding. Six compartment spine with five raised ribs. Gilt title, author, volume number, and double border in compartments two and three; the other four contain gilt floral ornaments and double borders. Red topstain. Half-titles. Contemporary endpapers. Volume I contains two pages of advertisements at the end; volume II contains a complete 8 page publisher's prospectus after the main text. Red ribbon bookmarks. Slight browning to the fore edges. Light foxing around the frontispieces. The frontispiece of volume one is unattached. The text blocks of both volumes are generally clean, bright, unmarked, and square with a strong binding. The spine and boards are pristine except for two small stains on the front board of volume I. A very good set of copies overall.…
